The Set Ahadith — Teachings, Arabic Text & Explanation

Hadith 1 — Sincerity (Nasiha)

Arabic Text:

'الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ.' قُلْنَا: لِمَنْ؟ قَالَ: 'لِلَّهِ وَلِكِتَابِهِ، وَلِرَسُولِهِ، وَلأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ.'

English Translation:

"Religion is sincerity." We said: "To whom?" The Prophet said: "To Allah, his Book, his Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and to their common people."

Reference: Muslim

What This Hadith Teaches Us:

  • The Arabic word Nasiha means sincerity or sincere devotion.
  • This Hadith tells us that the entire religion of Islam is built on the foundation of sincerity.
  • Sincerity must be directed toward five things:
Direction of SincerityWhat It Means
To Allah SWTBelieving in Him alone, worshipping Him sincerely, obeying His commands
To His Book (Quran)Reading, understanding, and acting upon the Quran honestly
To His Messenger PBUHFollowing Prophet Muhammad PBUH with complete loyalty
To Muslim LeadersObeying righteous leaders and advising them when they err
To Common MuslimsCaring for fellow Muslims, wishing them well, helping them

Key Lesson: An action performed without sincerity is worthless in the sight of Allah SWT. True faith requires complete dedication — not just outward performance.

Practical Application:

  • Pray not to be seen by others, but to genuinely connect with Allah SWT.
  • Give advice to leaders and community members out of care, not arrogance.
  • Be loyal to your community — stand by them in difficulty and prosperity.
